Cherie | Beauty Without Barriers
Though Cherie is a beauty app for beauty
lovers, we also truly believe in our responsibility to stand for important
causes. We're celebrating Earth Day all week here at Cherie with our
sustainability awareness campaign called "A Breath of Fresh Air".
This week, we'll be sharing different ways we can be, and provide, a breath of
fresh air to ourselves and the earth. Think doing small activities like walking
or biking instead of driving, or purchasing from brands that give back to the
earth. After all, everything begins with us!
Note from the author: In celebration of Earth Week, Cherie
is talking a lot about what we can do to give back to the earth. While our duty
to take care of the earth is an obvious one (it's our home!) I also wanted to
share some ways that the earth gives back to us in unexpected ways; vis a vis
nature, wellness, and mental clarity. Nature does so much more for us than we
realize! I spoke with Evelynn Escobar-Thomas, founder of Hike Clerb, an outdoor
hiking group for women of color, on why it's so important to include nature in
your wellness plan.
On Starting Hike Clerb
"Hike Clerb started as an answer to how we could get
more women, and especially women of color, out into nature. It was started to
make the outdoors accessible to everyone, because nature belongs to us all.
On Nature as a Tool for Healing
"Nature has been a huge catalyst to me in my healing.
Matter and energy are so different in nature's wonders and you can honestly
feel it. There's a reason why people go out of their way to visit places like
the Grand Canyon; it's of course a feat of nature, but whether people realize
it or not, there's good energy being absorbed.
Nature has really been a foundation for me to explore
myself, learn about me, and provide clarity of mind. Whenever I feel overwhelmed,
I turn to nature to reset.
Being able to bring other people into this journey has been
amazing."

On Your Wellbeing and Nature
"Nature is an essential part of anyones wellness plan. With my hiking group, making nature accessible for women to get out there is the main goal so that they can add it to their own wellness plans. Being in nature is the primal state of human beings, so it's essential to carve out time to return to that original state.
